Artist Statement
Being able to work with clay has given me a different outlook into what my work would be about. The thrill of unexpected surprise, the risk taking, being open minded can only bring happiness and joy into my work.
My first seven years in South Korea and immigrating to the States, has given me the chance to express my childhood experience by using the beauty of flowers and making the connections between the two cultures as an Asian-American in a sculptural format. Meanings of flowers are being unrecognized by many that I want my audience to know and be familiarized with what is hidden.
My work is mainly influenced by Asian art in a form of flowers that are represented within varies medium. Why a certain flower is shown and what makes it so important and how it is related to my cultural background are few questions that I ask myself. With these questions, the mystery, symbolic meanings can all be unraveled and into the minds of others.
